Ja'Nai found COMPASSION in Ascend
|
"I felt parts of my heart that I thought were cold ...I could feel them again. (Ascend) is truly a place where you can find community. I found ways that I could take steps forward." -Ja'Nai, TFMR for hyperemesis gravidarum mom |
Ja'Nai decided to join Ascend because she couldn't find any other groups that were SPECIFICALLY for TFMR. She was seeking community and wanted to be around other people who UNDERSTAND the complex nature of needing to end a wanted pregnancy.
She really enjoyed the different exercises and loved how each member had the freedom to participate in their own way. She loved that there was space for each person to do the activities in THEIR way, in their unique voice and expression.
The most surprising thing for Ja'Nai was that through the program she found a way to take steps forward. A way through the grief labyrinth. Ascend helped her take further steps through the spirals of grief.
She liked the activities and the INTIMACY of a smaller group. Being able to do them TOGETHER helps us all push ourselves gently to see more, understand more. The mindfulness portions of the program were challenging but EMPOWERING. She also really loved the art activities. They helped her reach a place of deeper meaning, a place where words can't reach. Her art was so beautiful and impactful.
Ja'Nai wants you to know that it's okay to feel trepidation, a bit of worry, about joining the group and wants you to take that leap of faith. The things that we talk about are things we don't share ANYWHERE ELSE. Ascend is the place for our shocking or tough emotions and thoughts. And the way the group is run, you will find support and understanding and compassion for WHATVER you are feeling. Ja'Nai felt surprised, in a good way! at the level of safety we create together, and comforted to find this type of deep support.
Being in the group helped her push through and make it another day. And another and another 💗
Ja'Nai also loved to hear Sabrina, the facilitator, share her story as well. She found hope and light and strength in hearing how someone else has been through it and got through it. It felt like a PEER, equal, relationship.
